Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear

Is it really that time again already? I’m talking ’bout PLAYOFFS!

Wednesday was the first game of the first round against the LA Kings and without a doubt I had to my nails to show my support. It was a last minute realization on the Tuesday evening so I quickly Googled “Canucks nails” and I found this image as inspiration (click here).

I quickly gathered my polish supplies, which consisted of Sally Hansens’ Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in Blue It and Insta-Dri Whirlwind White. Luckily I also have my Sephora OPI nail design pens in a green and a white because they really helped with the details. And as for polishing tools all I used was a dotter and a very small brush.

And here you go, the final results! I was thinking of putting Luongo and Keser’s numbers on my thumbs because they’re my favorite, but 33 and 22 looked way better and the Sedins are the core of the Canucks so it’s only fair that I pay tribute to these awesome Swedes.

It took a lot of focus and patience to complete this mani and I have to say thanks to my boyfriend for excusing my turrets-like f-bombs when I messed up (which was a lot!) and putting up with the strong polish odour.

I leave you all with this: THE SHUFFLENUCK.

I must admit that I’ve been really slacking on my mani’s and I even gave my nails an entire week of rest without any polish except for OPI’s nail envy. But don’t worry, I’m back on it and will try to post more often!

I was surfing the interwebs for inspiration yesterday and came across a denim ombré inspired mani and decided to give it a try myself. I debated whether I wanted to do a pink or blue  and decided to go with the blue, staying true to the denim theme.

First I painted the white base with Sally Hansen’s Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in White On. It took me 3 coats to make them look really even and opaque so I’m not sure if I would want to use this one again. White polishes are so hard to use! Then I dripped some Xtreme Wear in Pacific Blue onto a plastic plate to create the denim part of the mani. Using a make-up sponge, I sponged the blue very lightly starting from the tip of the nail until 2/3 was covered. I dabbed into some more blue onto the sponge and gradually made the tips darker to create the fullombré effect. Once the blue dried I decided to use Sephora by OPI’s matte top coat instead of a gloss top coat. I felt that this made the effect feel closer to denim.

This is maybe the second time I’ve ever worn blue nail polish and I still think it clashes with my skin tones, but at least they look cool! Well, I think so anyway :)

So besides chips, I also love indulging in a bit of froyo (which is what the cool kids call frozen yogurt). I had the chance to catch up with a good friend tonight over a cup of original tart at a nearby joint and got him to take a pic of my fresh nails (which I Instagram’d):

What’s your latest nail art inspiration?

I’m a total bandwagon jumper, I’ll be the first to admit it :) I honestly didn’t even know who made it into this Superbowl until a few days ago. My bf, on the other hand, is a hardcore football fan so I dedicate this mani to him.

On Friday I asked my football-loving-Facebook friends if I should go for the Patriots or Giants and the majority voted for the Giants. Thank goodness because I did my homework and the Patriots logo is much more complicated.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

NEW YORK GIANTS

I woke up this morning and realized that I only had a few hours to get my nails done or I’d miss all the hype. AND GET THIS: I didn’t own a single bottle of blue nail polish! I quickly jumped into my car, went to Shoppers Drug Mart and found me a bottle of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Blue It, which is the perfect blue to match the Giants logo. AND it was only $3.00, bonus! For the red I used my favorite China Glaze China Rouge and my white is a Sephora by OPI nail design pen.

It took me a while to decide on the design I wanted to create today. I didn’t want to do anything complicated because I had a lunch date at 1pm, which only have me 2 hours to do my nails (including drying time!). I started off with the blue base, added the white tip, painted the red line, then drew the NY logo with my pen on my ring finger. It looked great, but I didn’t have the time to do NY on every nail so I used my dotter tool and painted three dots on the rest of the nails. BOOM, Superbowl mani done in 45 minutes :)

Who are you cheering for and what is your favorite Superbowl snack?
